Airport Noise & Pollution Action Committee

Over the past 10 years, the growth in numbers of planes, both commercial and private, has been significant with an increase of 83% in commercial and 58% in corporate flights. As an example, on most days in the summer there are 25 commercial departures that register 80+ decibels every 10-15 minutes (for portions of the day) flying over approximately 1000 homes in the vicinity of the airport.

In January of 2021, neighbors south of the airport began discussing the dramatic increase in flights and noise over residential neighborhoods. Individual homeowners have, over the years, gone to the airport with complaints about the increased air traffic and the effects of noise and aircraft fuel pollution, all to no avail. A group of concerned citizens residing in various neighborhoods south of the airport formed a committee to address these issues. As such, the Airport Noise and Pollution Action Committee (ANPAC) began.

In May of 2021, ANPAC began to solicit the views of residents of the neighborhoods surrounding the airport with both a petition in support of our efforts and a noise annoyance survey sent to the 1,000 homeowners residing in the vicinity of the airport. Over 650 petition signatures have been received to date recognizing that aircraft noise has become a serious problem. Of the noise annoyance surveys received, over 75% rated noise from aircraft between 7-10 on a scale of 1-10. View our Timeline to learn more about our accomplishments.

We hope that by working as an organized voice of the community, we will be successful in reducing the noise and pollution from aircraft. We further hope that going forward the homeowners will be carefully considered as an important part of the entire ecosystem that the airport affects with its operation.
